White Water Lilies hold the last gasps of a droughty summer’s water in their exposed roots.
This slow-flowing beaver-dammed section of the marsh, both river and pond, usually floods over the mud shelves seen along the back of the image. Where other places in the marsh have dried completely, this one holds enough water to reflect the sunset. This time last year, I needed water shoes to walk the trail, the water three inches up my shins.
